What sealed Abyss Artifacts are
Regular Abyss Artifacts also come from combat meters, bosses and quests, but sealed ones sit around the map and only unlock after you clear a challenge. Artifacts work like skill points for learning skills or raising Health, Spirit and Stamina. The source says unsealing can give Abyss Artifacts, Faded Abyss Artifacts (respec items) or Abyss Gears, but it does not list a reward for each one.
How to find them
About 90% sit beside main roads on shrines, cairns or altars, according to the source.
Hold up your lantern to see a white ring of light from far away.
Within about 30 m a purple cube shows on the minimap.
Guiding Light (L1+R1 / LB+RB) shows a faint blue glimmer through walls and brush.
After picking one up, check Journal > Challenges for its requirement.

Unseal the easy challenges first: selling, knowledge and travel types.
Handle weapon mastery challenges together at an enemy camp with the matching weapon equipped.
Do the rest alongside boss and quest rewards when you move to a new region.
💡 Tip: One overseas guide suggests collecting artifacts early, since they act like skill points and may matter less later.
