This guide pulls together how players abroad adopt pets in Crimson Desert, cross-checked against English guide sites. Raise a dog's or cat's trust to 100 and you can take it in, though only one pet can follow you at a time.
Cats: Poultry, fish or milk +10 each, usually 2-3 days
Added in patches: 1.04.00 Abyss Heuklang; 1.09.00 about 30 small animals
What pets do for you
A summoned pet follows you around. According to overseas guides, a dog automatically picks up items dropped by defeated enemies and fetches ore or wood that flies away when you gather it. Pets do not attack, and they vanish while you ride a horse, so travel speed is unaffected. There is no loot filter, so a pet grabs junk too; clear some inventory space first.
Basic trust rules
Every animal starts at trust 0 and can be taken in at 100.
Trust comes from petting and feeding.
Most guides list petting at +5 per use, up to 5 times a day (+25).
Feeding has a daily cap, but guides disagree (3 or 5 per day), so treat it as a player report.
Once you hit the daily cap, let time pass or sleep and continue the next day.
At trust 100, hold the interact button and pick Take in.
Taming a dog
Walk up and hold the interact prompt to pet a dog. One English guide says tough meat gives +10 and fine meat +35, while another test found no difference between meats, so the numbers conflict. Players generally agree that fine meat can theoretically fill the bar in a single day. Buy food from the grocery or butcher south of the inn in Hernand.
Taming a cat
For cats, hold the lift prompt to pick the cat up, then press the pet button while holding it. Poultry, fish and milk are reported at +10 each, so it usually takes 2-3 days. A Steam guide recommends poultry and notes cats are harder to find on rainy days.
Feeding tips
Feed by discarding food on the ground near the animal from your inventory.
In towns or crowded spots, NPCs and other animals can steal the food, so pick a quiet place.
Unsummon your current pet first so it does not eat the food.
A Steam guide says grilled meat gives more trust than raw, but other sources list different numbers, so verify in game.
Limits and management
You can own up to 30 pets and summon one at a time. Pets you are not using wait at your camp once you unlock it in Chapter 3. Manage them from the Pets tab. Sources disagree on whether releasing a pet deletes it permanently or lets it respawn where you tamed it, so avoid releasing one unless you are sure. Pet costumes are sold at shops such as the Pororin village shop.
Abyss Heuklang and newer pets
Per English guide sites, patch 1.04.00 (April 23) made the black chimera-type cat Abyss Heuklang tameable. It hangs around the outer courtyard and pillars at the Axiom Archive entrance, the first Abyss area in the main quest. The same patch added pet renaming (up to 15 characters). Being a chimera type, it cannot wear armor. Patch 1.09.00 (May 29) added about 30 small animals as pets.
Dog companion quest
Guides mention a stray-dog quest in Chapter 4, tied to Naira at the Greymane camp (The Greymanes' New Fangs). It is unclear whether it is required, so finishing it early is a safe choice.
💡 Tip: Cats take at least two days, so fill the daily cap, sleep to roll the day over, and repeat.
⚠ Trust gains, the daily feeding cap (3 or 5) and the release rule differ between sources and could not be confirmed. This is based on overseas player reports, and some names are translations.
