Gifts are the fastest way to raise friendship in Stardew Valley. This guide covers the points per taste, birthday and quality multipliers, and the universal gifts everyone loves, based on the wiki numbers.
One heart: 250 points
Gift limit: 1 per day, 2 per week (not birthdays)
Love / Like / Neutral: +80 / +45 / +20
Dislike / Hate: -20 / -40
Birthday multiplier: x8
Basic gifting rules
You can give one gift per villager per day.
Only two gifts per week raise friendship. A week starts on Sunday, and birthday gifts do not count toward the limit.
You can gift your spouse every day.
One heart is 250 points. Marriage candidates stop at 8 hearts (2,249 points) until you give them a bouquet.
Points by taste
On a normal day, loved gifts give +80, liked gifts +45 and neutral gifts +20. Disliked gifts cost 20 points and hated gifts cost 40. The Feast of the Winter Star multiplies this by 5 and birthdays by 8. A loved gift on a birthday is worth +640 at once, more than two and a half hearts.
Quality multipliers and the maximum
Loved and liked gifts get a quality multiplier: x1 for normal, x1.1 for silver, x1.25 for gold and x1.5 for iridium. An iridium-quality loved gift on a birthday gives 960 points, the maximum for a single gift. If you read Friendship 101, all gains are multiplied by 1.1, which raises that to 1,056.
Universal loved gifts
Golden Pumpkin, Magic Rock Candy, Pearl, Prismatic Shard and Rabbit's Foot
Exceptions: Haley hates Prismatic Shard and Penny hates Rabbit's Foot.
Universal likes include most artisan goods, cooked dishes, vegetables, gems, flowers and fruit tree fruits.
Gifts to avoid
Dislikes (-20): building materials, bombs, fences, fertilizer, sprinklers, seeds, geodes and most fish
Hates (-40): artifacts, bait, most trash and monster loot, iron and copper ore, poppy, warp totems
How friendship decays
Friendship drops over time. Marriage candidates lose 2 points a day before you give a bouquet and stop at 8 hearts, while a spouse loses 20 points a day. Talking to a villager gives +20 a day, and finishing an item delivery quest gives +150. Hitting someone with a slingshot costs 30 and rummaging in a nearby trash can costs 25.
💡 Tip: Reading Friendship 101 multiplies all friendship gains by 1.1. On birthdays, always give a loved gift, ideally gold quality or better.
⚠ Based on the English Stardew Valley Wiki. The Korean wiki's universal gift list differs in places (for example, Stardrop Tea is only on the English page). Individual villager tastes are not covered here.
