Getting the Magnifying Glass
In Winter, walk from the farm to the Bus Stop between 6am and 4pm. A Shadow Guy cutscene starts the quest A Winter Mystery.
Interact with the bush left of the Community Center, by the playground.
The Shadow Guy gives you a Magnifying Glass, so notes can drop while digging, chopping, mining, fishing or fighting monsters.
Read a found note by right-clicking it in the top inventory row, as you would to eat food.
Drop chances
Weeds 0.9%, monsters 3.3%, 0.5% per axe hit on trees
Note 4, Maru's note: invention parts gold bar, iridium bar, battery pack, diamond, strawberry
Note 5, Penny's list: gifts for Pam, Jas, Vincent, George and Evelyn; Pam dislikes beer
Note 6, saloon special orders: dishes for Lewis, Marnie, Demetrius and Caroline
Note 7, diary entry: loved gifts for Harvey, Elliott and Shane
Note 8, letter to Haley and Emily: favorite gifts for both sisters
Note 9, Alex's diet note: Complete Breakfast and Salmon Dinner
Notes 10-16: quests and treasure
Note 10, Skull Cavern: reaching floor 100 triggers the Cryptic Note quest and Mr. Qi gives an Iridium Snake Milk (+25 max Health). Using 10 or fewer staircases earns praise.
Note 11: image only, with no text hint on the wiki
Note 12, garbage hints: check the cans behind the saloon, the Mullners', and by the blacksmith and museum
Note 13: at noon on day 28 of any season, interact with the bush above the playground for a Junimo Plush
Note 14, Community Center: dig or break the Stone Junimo statue behind the building, against the right fence, with a pickaxe or hoe
Note 15, Mermaid Show (Night Market): shell order 1-5-4-2-3 from the left, which gives a Pearl
Note 16: hoe the tile right of the large boulder north of the railroad tracks for a Treasure Chest
Notes 17-25: quests and permanent bonuses
Note 17: dig the northernmost eastern tile north of JojaMart by the river for a green Strange Doll, and stand close so the river does not take it
Note 18: in the Calico Desert, hoe the spot southwest of the southeast bench for a yellow Strange Doll (not during the Desert Festival)
Note 19: follow the arrows to a Solid Gold Lewis statue behind the Mayor's house; placing it in town brings a 750g letter and a Rotten Plant
Note 20: give a Rabbit's Foot to the truck driver at JojaMart for the Special Charm, a permanent daily luck boost
Note 21: at 12:40 AM, interact with the large bush northwest of the bridge out of town and Marnie and Lewis jump out
Note 22: place a Battery Pack in the wall box in the middle of The Tunnel to start The Mysterious Qi
Note 23: bring Maple Syrup to the Secret Woods between 6am and 7pm for a bear cutscene that triples Blackberry and Salmonberry sell prices
Note 24: placing a mineral, gem or geode mineral in a Junimo Hut changes the Junimo color; Prismatic Shards give rainbow Junimos
Note 25: fish outside the Spa in spring, summer or fall for an Ornate Necklace to give Caroline (50 Friendship) or Abigail (100 Friendship)
Why bother
Gift-list notes add those gifts to the villager's gift log, which saves friendship work. The Skull Cavern floor 100 note leads to +25 max Health, note 20 permanently raises daily luck, and note 23 triples berry sell prices. Secret notes can be gifted, but every villager hates them. The English wiki also lists notes 26 and 27 separately; this guide covers only up to 25.
💡 Tip: Fishing has an 8% chance and giant crops 100%, so once you have the Magnifying Glass, start with those two sources.
⚠ Note numbers and contents follow the English wiki. Korean in-game names for some quests and items were not confirmed, and note 11 has no text description on the wiki.
